See the cult classic back on the big screen for one night only, on glorious 35mm film! Originally released in 2001, The American Astronaut made waves on the festival circuit as an indie film including a nomination for Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. Now for the 25th anniversary, Matson Films have found the only remaining 35mm print for screenings of filmmaker Cory McAbee's singular black and white rock-a-billy sci-fi western musical across the country this fall.

Written, directed, and starring Cory McAbee of the legendary cult band The Billy Nayer Show, this sci-fi, musical-western is filled with flinty black and white photography, rugged Lo-Fi sets, some of the most original rock n’ roll scenes ever committed to film, and the spirit of the final frontier. We follow Curtis on his Homeric journey to provide the all-female planet of Venus with a suitable male, while pursued by an enigmatic killer, Professor Hess.
