Walking the 'green carpet' at the Reservation Dogs premiere

Ready for Reservation Dogs? Skoden! Circle Cinema was honored to roll out the “green carpet” for a star-studded premiere screening of the new FX on Hulu comedy co-created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi. The show is the first to feature an all-Indigenous writers room and principal cast, and was filmed right here in Oklahoma. The cast and crew in attendance - including creator Sterlin Harjo, series leads D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Lane Factor, and Paulina Alexis, plus featured actors Elva Guerra, Lil Mike, Funny Bone, and Sten Joddi – previewed the first three episodes on the big screen.

The screening opened with a land acknowledgment from Muscogee Nation Principal Chief David Hill and a drum blessing. Harjo then gave some opening remarks, noting the importance of the moment for Indigenous arts. He thanked FX for the amount of creative freedom he and the other writers had on the show, allowing them to tell their stories in a truly authentic way.

Harjo has grown accustomed to premiering his work at Circle Cinema, with Reservation Dogs being the latest in a career continually reaching new heights. From his 2007 feature debut Four Sheets to the Wind to debuting his short documentary Terlton at the 2019 Circle Cinema Film Festival, we are proud to showcase the work of such a talented filmmaker.

If you missed the Reservation Dogs premiere, or don’t have access to FX on Hulu, don’t worry! Circle Cinema will offer free weekly community screenings of each episode on Monday evenings through the end of the season on September 20, 2021. The first three episodes screened at the premiere were absolutely hilarious – we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of the show!
