Fred, a would-be YouTuber, makes contact with an extraterrestrial and unwittingly becomes a cult leader. His cameraman, Zak, watches in horror as Fred and his followers are abducted, leaving him to piece together the bizarre and unsettling truth in a documentary.

This is a universe that exists in new media already, with a grassroots YouTube channel that documents the 6 months that Fred and Zak were separated as the cult grew, containing over 60 videos, an original song, guest appearances, meditation compilations, and the strange philosophical rantings of a man on the edge of sanity.

About the Director

Attila Gyula Balázs is a filmmaker based in Oklahoma City whose work spans directing, writing, and producing. Born in Portland, Oregon, to a Canadian mother and a Hungarian-American father, Balázs brings a cross-cultural perspective to his storytelling. After relocating to Oklahoma at an early age, he immersed himself in the arts, building a career that bridges video production, live sound, and independent cinema.

His films often explore themes of identity, transcendence, and the blurred line between reality and imagination. Notable projects include Knot: The Fred G. Lee Story and Blue Kaiju – Ghostlight, along with contributions in sound and production across a range of short and feature projects.

Balázs describes his approach as that of an auteur, drawing on over fifteen years of experience in film and video to craft stories that are both visually striking and philosophically layered. He continues to develop independent projects under his own banner, with a focus on bold, unconventional narratives that invite audiences to question and reimagine the world around them.

Director's Statement

Art is intention. It is my intention to revel in the inner workings of the human condition. To slice between each splice of the edit, a miracle, a tragedy, the resilience, the truth, the spirit of humanity. In the rise of all forms of visual media, interactive and passive, cinema is a specific state of the art that allows its audience to transcend consensus reality in an ocean of emotion. No matter where it lands between fact and fiction, whether or not it was captured on celluloid or transistor- cinema is a portal to world that allows one to live another lifetime in a handful of hours, countless times, before were separated from this mortal coil.
