Circle Cinema welcomes Dr. Linda Barnum to host a Climate Café workshop paired with a screening of the new documentary Climate in Therapy. The event will begin with the 1h5min documentary screening followed by a Climate Café in the theater.

Climate Cafés provide welcoming, supportive spaces for individuals to come together and explore the emotional and psychological impacts of climate change. Through facilitated conversations, participants are invited to share experiences of climate anxiety, ecological grief, uncertainty, and hope in a nonjudgmental environment.

Rather than focusing on scientific debates or immediate solutions, Climate Cafés emphasize emotional connection, compassionate listening, and shared understanding. These workshops foster psychological resilience, reduce feelings of isolation, and strengthen our collective capacity to navigate the challenges of a changing planet.

The goal is to create a space where people feel heard, connected, and empowered to face an uncertain environmental future with greater awareness, compassion, and resilience.

Circle Cinema provides the perfect environment for this to take place, hosted by Dr. Linda Barnum.

Dr. Linda Barnum is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at the University of Oklahoma. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor (LPC-S) and holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology specializing in the resolution of trauma for individuals, families, and communities. Her work integrates clinical psychology, and environmental health through research and education focused on climate or ecological distress, intergenerational trauma, and the human dimensions of environmental change.

In her work as second chair of the Geological Society of America Health Division, Dr. Barnum advocates interdisciplinary collaboration between geoscientists, mental health professionals, and community stakeholders to address the psychological impacts of environmental change and promote wellbeing and resilience in climate-facing communities.

About the film: 1h5min - Documentary - Not Rated - English

Climate in Therapy is a humorous, inventive and serious experiment in which seven climate scientists go for group therapy in a godforsaken hotel. Here they confront an academic taboo and a hitherto unknown area of research in itself: their own emotions. Therapist Richard Beck faces a tricky task with the scientists, who are much better at talking about natural disasters than what’s burning inside themselves. But who knows, maybe climate disaster can be solved if the knots in ourselves can be untied?
