Nope with Adam Davis and Demery Family Rodeo

Presented with Adam Davis (Tulsa Artist Fellow, acclaimed photographer, Black Rodeo historian), see a special one-night presentation of the Jordan Peele written & directed "Nope" plus a special slideshow presentation of Adam’s tintype “Black Magic” portrait series, and the big-screen debut of Cleo Reed’s made-in-Oklahoma “American Dream” music video directed by Adam. “Nope” captures a 2022 American science fiction horror film written, directed, and produced by Jordan Peele. It stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea, and Keith David. In the film, horse-wrangling siblings Otis "OJ" Jr. (Kaluuya) and Emerald (Palmer) attempt to capture evidence of an unidentified flying object in Agua Dulce, California.

About Adam Davis: Adam Davis is a photographer & filmmaker from Brooklyn, New York. He currently resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a third year Tulsa Artist Fellow, spending most of his time riding horses and making pictures. Before moving to Oklahoma, Davis spent the better part of a decade in Los Angeles building a community & an artistic practice centered around uplifting the Black community through photography. During his tenure in LA, he started what has now evolved into the legacy portrait project titled Black Magic, an effort to amass the largest collection of Black American and Global African Diasporic tintype portraits ever created. Since moving to Oklahoma, Davis has tasked himself with deepening his knowledge of America’s history as it pertains to the establishment of what is considered the West & the South. About the Demery Family Rodeo: Come support one of the pioneering Black rodeo families in Oklahoma history! With over 20 years of contributions to Western heritage preservation, the Demery family has played a pivotal role in the continuation of rodeo culture nationwide. Historically producing their family’s rodeo on 4th of July weekend, the opportunity to collaborate with family friend and Tulsa Artist Fellow Adam Davis came to co-produce a rodeo event to provide the community a chance to witness the beautiful rodeo scene in the Fall. Come to expect the best bronc & bull riders, fastest barrel racing cowgirls, and most competitive pony express teams in the state! The rodeo is Saturday, October 3rd at 5PM.
