About the film:
Originally from Olympia, Washington, award-winning filmmaker John Paget finds himself at home on the road, capturing the people’s stories with warmth, depth, and clarity, and framing landscapes and towns to reveal a vivid sense of place.  Having made his earliest documentaries about the legendary highway, Paget’s latest film builds on deep Route 66 roots. As Michael Wallis, author of Route 66: The Mother Road, exclaims: “For 30 years, I’ve said that John Paget’s documentary, Route 66: An American Odyssey, is the best documentary ever made on the Mother Road. I can’t wait to see his new film for the Route 66 Centennial!”

The new film unfolds as a series of vivid, character-driven stories—from dreamers and small business owners to preservationists and everyday heroes—each offering a unique window into life along the road. Together, these stories form a rich and deeply human portrait of Route 66 today: a place of resilience, reinvention, and unexpected opportunity.

From roadside attractions to revitalized main streets, the film captures the spirit of communities finding new life and new purpose, proving that sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin when you take the road less traveled.

Whether you’ve driven Route 66 or only imagined it, this film offers an engaging, heartfelt look at an American icon full of humor, warmth, and discovery.

Officially selected by the U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission as part of the national commemoration of the highway’s 100th anniversary, Route 66: The Main Street of America uncovers something deeper than nostalgia; it celebrates resilience, reinvention, and the enduring American spirit of adventure.
