Special presentation for National Silent Movie Day! See Harold Lloyd in the classic 1928 silent "Speedy" with a live score played by Bill Rowland on Circle’s restored 1928 theater pipe organ, and come early for walk-in music on the organ by Michael Huffman. Tickets just $8 adults, $5 kids, with support from the American Theatre Organ Society Sooner State Chapter, Arts Alliance Tulsa, and Tulsa Spotlight Theater.
As a bonus for National Silent Movie Day, enjoy the one and only Charlie Chaplin in the 1915 short film "The Tramp" before the main feature! Silent Movie Day is an annual celebration of silent movies that anyone can take part in. We believe that silent film is a vital, beautiful, and often overlooked part of film history. Our goal is to advocate for its presentation and preservation. This day provides an opportunity for academics, aficionados, programmers, archivists and enthusiasts to gather around their shared appreciation of this unique period in visual arts and culture. It is also a time to rally around silent film initiatives for preservation and access, as well as raise awareness of the small percentage of film that remains from this period of the motion picture industry.
About "Speedy": Chronically unemployed Yankees fan Harold "Speedy" Swift (Harold Lloyd) dates Jane Dillon (Ann Christy), a girl whose beloved grandfather, Pop (Bert Woodruff), runs a failing horse-drawn trolley business, in a rapidly changing city where the railway is becoming king. When a crooked railroad official steals Pop's last car, hoping to force him into a shutdown, Speedy must race against the clock to find the culprits, return the car in time, and keep the service running on schedule. 1h27min, comedy, not rated but suitable for most all ages.
