Artist Statement
Americana (culture): Artifacts of the culture of the United States. This evergreen series began in 2017 while living in Washington DC and reflecting on a place that Dawn Tree spent a good amount of her young adult to adulthood years - Oklahoma. Home of the most Black Towns, the Native American Migration, Black Wall Street; an example of what Black people with free access/means can do economically. Also the largest example of what it looks like to be continually sabotaged - the story of America. Furthermore, visiting the Black Rodeo in Okmulgee in 2021 inspired one of the most recent pieces, "Americana VI - Rodeo Man." Reflections of how African Americans are the thread of American culture. Oklahoma itself has a rich history amongst Blacks - oil discovery, farming, to rodeoing. Dawn Tree is an American Painter exploring culture and positivity in her medium.
